I’m delighted to have been re-selected by the Labour Party as your Leeds City Council candidate for 2024. I live locally, with two children at high school. I run my own business and have senior roles in the Leeds-wide activities of both Labour and the Co-op Party. By listening to local resident and working on issues that matter to you, we are showing that Labour can make a difference in Otley and Yeadon. I fought a strong campaign here in 2023, closing the gap between Labour and the Lib Dems. Your Labour team and I look forward to meeting you on the doorstep in the coming months.
Ian’s priorities for Otley
- Tackle drug dealing and other anti-social behaviour – working with the Police, Leeds City Council and the local community.
- Listen to residents about our buses – routes, times, fares, and Otley bus station – and work with the Mayor’s office to get them improved.
- Work towards a greener Otley, and find ways to reduce car journeys within Otley itself.
- Work with Leeds City Council to improve activities and facilities for children and young people in Otley.
- Encourage solidarity in our community: bring people together to tackle issues such as the cost of living crisis, and support projects and groups working to meet community needs.
Ian’s priorities for Yeadon
- Tackle drug dealing and other anti-social behaviour – working with the Police, Leeds City Council and the local community
- Listen to residents about our bus routes, times and fares – and work with the Mayor’s office to improve them.
- Work towards setting up a new community Food Pantry, based on solidarity not charity. Members would pay small weekly subs.
- Seek a comprehensive plan from Leeds City Council to tackle issues with damp and cold in local council houses and flats.
- Focus on traffic hotspots around the town and work with Highways, Police and Enforcement team to improve safety and traffic flow.
Towards a Co-operative Future!
I am one of several City Council candidates who, along with West Yorkshire Mayor Tracy Brabin, are standing as Labour and Co-operative Party candidates in the May elections. Co-op candidates for the City Council are pledged to support:
- more co-operative housing
- retrofitting homes to improve insulation and cut energy bills
- a new bus franchising system and perhaps eventually, co-op bus providers
- devolution of power to the most local level.
