The electoral commission states the deadline to register to vote in the 4 July 2024 general election is 23.59 Tuesday 18 June. But don’t leave it to the last minute – register today!
You will need to register to vote if you have moved house, changed your name or you haven’t registered before.
Here’s how to register to vote (this is an external link to Leeds City Council’s website), or to register to vote online you can use the UK government website https://www.gov.uk/register-to-vote. (These links are fully external – you’re not registering through the Labour branch website.)
You don’t need to be a UK citizen to vote
Who can vote depends on the type of election. Find out who can vote at a general election at https://www.gov.uk/elections-in-the-uk/general-election
If you live in the UK, will be 18 or over on election day, and you’re a UK or Irish citizen, or you’re a citizen of a Commonwealth country with leave to enter or remain in the UK, you are likely to be able to vote at a general election. See the links above for an definitive list of who can vote and the list of Commonwealth countries whose citizens may be able to vote in the UK.

Students and voting
If you’re a student you can register to vote at both your home and term-time address, but in a general election you will need to choose which election you will vote in – your home constituency or your term time constituency. Remember to consider whether you will be at your home or term-time address on 4 July. If you decide to vote at your other address remember the deadline for registering for a postal vote is 5pm on Wednesday 19 June (don’t leave it to the last minute!).
